The primary purpose of the dress code is to ensure that each student at St. Joseph School follows our community's uniform regulations in addition to appearing neat, clean, and well groomed. The faculty and principal handle infractions. It is the parent's responsibility to see that their children are neat, clean, well groomed, and dressed in accordance with this code. Parents should save themselves the inconvenience of having to come and pick up their child from school by making sure that all uniform requirements are met.

Uniforms must be clean and pressed at all times. Uniform shirts and blouses must be tucked in at all times. Parents will be called to pick up their child if they arrive in class not properly groomed.

Boys - Grades 1 - 5:
Shirt/Sweatshirt/Jacket
Blue polo knit shirt with school logo
Royal blue sweatshirt with school logo
Navy Sweater with school logo
Navy windbreaker/fleece jacket with school logo

Pants:
Navy blue cords, navy twill shorts/pants, Shorts are not to hang below the knee. Belts (black, dark brown, or navy blue) are required of students who wear shorts or long pants with belt loops. Shorts may be worn year round.

Boys - Grades 6, 7, 8:
Shirt/sweatshirt/jacket
White knit polo shirt with school logo
Navy/royal blue hooded sweatshirt with school logo
Navy sweater with school logo
Navy windbreaker/fleece jacket with school logo

Pants
Navy blue cords, navy twill shorts/pants
Shorts may be worn year round. Shorts are not to be worn below the knee. Belts are required when pants/shorts have belt loops.
Note: Jackets other that school uniform jacket may be worn to and from school. Students may not wear them in the classroom or to church.

Girls - Grades 1 - 5:
Shirt/Blouses/Sweatshirt/Jacket
Blue polo shirts or blue or white blouse
Royal blue sweatshirt with school logo
Navy sweater with school logo
Navy windbreaker/fleece jacket with school logo
White turtlenecks may be worn under the shirt/blouse for warmth. It may not be worn alone.

Pants / Skirt / Shorts
Uniform plaid jumper or skirt (may not be rolled up and no shorter that 3" above the knee).
Walking shorts in plaid or navy (may not be rolled up)
Long navy or plaid pants
Navy culottes

Girls - Grades 6, 7, 8:
Shirts/sweatshirt/jacket
White polo shirt with school logo
Navy/royal blue hooded sweatshirt with school logo
Navy windbreaker/fleece jacket with school logo

Skirts / Pants:
Plaid skirt or navy culottes (may not be rolled up and no shorter than 3" above the knee).
Navy blue or plaid walking shorts (may not be rolled up)
Belts are required when pants/shorts have belt loops

P.E. Uniform - Boys / Girls - Grades 4 - 8 only:
Navy blue P.E. shorts
Light blue t-shirt with school logo
Proper fitting athletic shoe - No platform shoes of any kind
If students do not have a P.E. uniform, their grade will be affected.

Socks / Belts:
Only white crew socks may be worn. No other socks will be allowed. Girls may wear white or navy tights. Please note that ankle socks or embellishments of socks are not allowed.
Belts are to be black, dark brown, or navy blue.

Shoes:
Tennis/athletic shoes must be worn
Dominant color must be white, navy blue, brown or gray, (no bright neon tennis shoes/no trendy or novelty shoes)
No platform shoes allowed/no high top tennis shoes
Doc Martins/Combat boots/hiking boots are not allowed
Open toe shoes are not allowed at any time
Shoe laces/white, black, gray to match shoes, no neon bright laces

Hair / Nails:
Hair should be clean and should be worn in such a fashion that vision is not obstructed. Bangs or sides of hair may not fall in the student's face and must be held back with a clip or bobby pin. If hair is long and unruly, it should be tied back in a ponytail. No more than 2 hair ornaments. Boys' hair should not touch the collar. Gels, mousse, hairspray, or oil are forbidden. No spiked hair, color change, bleaching or trendy hairstyle is permitted. No shaved heads sides or back (no scalp showing). Barber is not to use the #0 or #1 razor. Nails must be kept clean, short, and only clear nail polish is allowed (no French manicures or colored polish).

Jewelry:
Small religious necklace only
Post earrings, one per ear (girls only)
Watch/ring (not to be worn if safety is jeopardized)
No bracelets are allowed (exception for medical/official ID)

Uniform Policy: in Uniform:
Shorts or long pants with loops must wear a belt
Shirts must be tucked in at all times
Crew socks only may be worn (no ankle socks)
Regular (lower top) tennis shoes (no high tops, converse, hiking books, platform tennis shoes Sweaters, sweatshirts, or jackets are not to be worn around the waist at any time

Out of Uniform:
Rolling up skirts or shorts - skirts no shorter than 2" above the knee
Turning up short cuffs (may not be sewn shorter)
Sagging pants
Un-tucked shirts
High tops, converse, hiking boots, platform tennis shoes
Open toe shoes
Spiked, mousse, gel in hair
Or whatever principal and faculty deem inappropriate.

Consequences for uniform infraction:
No warning will be given for any uniform violation.
A detention will be given for the first infraction.
Habitual infractions will result in parent conference.

ALL UNIFORMS MUST BE LABELED WITH STUDENT'S NAME AND GRADE.
